Created and performed by Onalea Gilbertson
Music by Onalea Gilbertson, Morag Northey and Jonathan Lewis
Directed by Rachel Avery

BLANCHE is a theatrical, poetic song cycle set in the far corner of a 93-year-old woman’s mind. Acclaimed musician and theatre artist Onalea Gilbertson explores the life and stories of her 93-year-old grandmother, taking us through the Great Depression, WW2, and tragic lost love. This original sonic landscape – a poignant mash up of folk, torch, and chamber music featuring piano, cello, violin and guitar underscored with Blanche's recorded voice - spans generations. Blanche, named one of the top 20 shows in New York in 2011 by the Huffington Post, reminds us If we don’t tell their stories all will be forgotten…

BLANCHE was originally commissioned by the Banff Centre and has performed in Wells, BC, Washington, DC (Best of Capital Fringe), FringeNYC, and The High Performance Rodeo. The Calgary Sun recently compared it to the famous Canadian Play Billy Bishop goes to war.

Onalea Gilbertson is an award winning Canadian performer and creator working as a multi disciplinary artist in theatre, music and film who splits her time between New York City and her hometown - Calgary Alberta.
