The Fortunate Ones
The Fortunate Ones“Andrew O’Brien plumbs the depth of human experience and bares his heart, soul, and liver in an outpouring of emotion and feeling against a catchy, melodic backdrop of contemporary folk, pop and rock.” - John Clarke, Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Arts Society

After generating impressive energy on his own, Andrew James O’Brien found the perfect accelerant to add to his musical fire in vocalist/instrumentalist, Catherine Allan. Together, they are The Fortunate Ones. Andrew and Catherine’s earnest blend of acoustic folk/pop and roots has been gaining them significant critical and popular praise. Bare-bones arrangements and delicate, quietly assured harmony allows for the intimate musical conversations that have made their live shows so endearing and memorable. They perform with the openheartedness of two people that live the songs they sing; the vulnerability and closeness between The Fortunate Ones is palpable on stage during each and every performance.

Following a successful tour of England in late 2012, the duo traveled back to the UK in early 2013 to tour with singer-songwriter, Paul Brady. The Fortunate Ones recently recorded a CBC television special, Sessions in the Old Town, with Radio 2 Morning host, Tom Power; it is set to air late summer 2013.
The Fortunate Ones are currently penning material for their debut album. For now, special performances are available for viewing online at and YouTube. Andrew James O’Brien is a 3-time MusicNL Award winner (2011). He was named Male Artist of the Year, Rising Star of the Year and his debut solo album, Songs for Searchers, was named the Pop/Rock Recording of the Year.
